Remarks:- For conspicuous
gallantry and devotion to duty. When an enemy machine gun opened fire on
advancing troops, he rushed the position through our barrage and captured the
machine gun and fourteen prisoners, one of whom was an officer. By his splendid
courage and resources he prevented many casualties and enabled the advance to
continue.

5th Battalion, Canadian Mounted Rifles. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion
to duty near Monchy from 26th to 28th August, 1918. He kept in close touch with
the battalion in the advance, attending to the wounded under heavy shellfire. He
worked continuously, mostly in the open for 36 hours and was largely responsible
for the small number of killed in the unit.

Remarks:- For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty
throughout 40 hours of continuous fighting on the 27th and 28th of August, 1918,
near Vis-en-Artois, involving two attacks and repeated enemy counter attacks. He
was in the thick of the fighting, accounting for five of the enemy and setting a
fine aggressive example for his men.

Bar to the Distinguished Conduct Medal
Remarks:- In the attack
through Tilloy on the 1st October 1918 he single handed captured an enemy
machine gun crew of seven men and getting the gun in action inflicted many
casualties on the enemy. Later he took charge of two platoons after they had
lost their officers and by his gallant leadership enabled them to take their
objectives and consolidate their positions. When the enemy succeeded in
penetrating one post he single handed drove them out, killing five and taking seven prisoners. He showed
splendid gallantry and initiative
