At the time the Battalion was being raised, there was a campaign to make the Lakehead Dry.

                                  The CO of the 94th was a "Dry" Advocate.

Even commercial advertisements were used to put the message across about the need for recruits.  This ad was found in both the Fort William Times Journal and the Port Arthur News Chronicle. The following ads were placed in the Fort William, Port Arthur and Kenora newspapers at various times.
